Build An Ant Empire

Build An Ant Empire Starlight Mutation Potion

Starlight is the top of the mutation potion ladder: $5.1Qi for 5x EFF on one ant. This page puts that price next to every cheaper potion so you can decide whether it is worth saving for, and what to put it on.

Where Starlight Sits on the Potion Ladder

Each step up the ladder costs more and multiplies EFF more. The last column is plain arithmetic: Starlight's 5x divided by that potion's multiplier. It shows how much more EFF the same ant would have with Starlight instead of that potion.

Mutation potion costs and EFF multipliers compared with Starlight

Petal Mutation Potion$500T3x67% more EFF
Starlight Mutation Potion$5.1Qi5xโ€”

The move from Petal to Starlight is the largest multiplier step on the ladder: 3x to 5x, about 67% more EFF. No other step adds more than 33%.

Reading the $5.1Qi Price

Shop prices use letter suffixes, so read the whole suffix before comparing. If the shop follows the usual short-scale suffixes (T for trillion, Qa for quadrillion, Qi for quintillion), $500T is 0.5 Qa and $5.1Qi is 5,100 Qa. Starlight would then cost about 10,200 times as much as Petal, for 67% more EFF than Petal.

At that gap, Starlight is a late-game purchase rather than the obvious next step after Petal. It makes sense once $5.1Qi is affordable without stalling rolls, nest space, or leveling. The Mutation Removal Potion, at $100k, is tiny by comparison, but it removes the mutation rather than refunding it.

What 5x EFF Does and Does Not Tell You

The item list describes the effect as a multiplier on the mutated ant's EFF. Read that way, an ant with Starlight has 5 times its unmutated EFF, and about 1.67 times what it would have with Petal. Because it is a multiplier, a stronger ant gains more from it in absolute terms than a weak one does, which is why the choice of ant matters more than the potion itself.

What the multiplier does not tell you: we do not have base EFF values for individual ants, and we have not measured how EFF turns into Food or Cash per minute. So this page gives no payback time. You can estimate one for your own colony instead.

  1. Note how much Cash your colony earns over a fixed stretch of play, with no Speed Jelly or other timed boost active.
  2. Apply the potion, change nothing else, and measure again over the same length of time.
  3. Divide the potion's cost by the extra Cash per minute. The result is a rough payback time for your setup only.

Choosing the Ant

The same rules from the Mutations guide apply, with higher stakes. A Starlight potion on a worker you replace soon after is the most expensive mistake on the ladder.

  • Pick an ant you expect to keep using after your next rarity jump.
  • Pick an ant that already performs well; the potion multiplies what is there rather than fixing a weak worker.
  • Check the ant's current mutation first. We have not confirmed whether a new potion replaces an existing mutation or whether you need the Removal Potion first, so read the in-game prompt.
  • Double-check the selected ant before confirming, because undoing it costs a Removal Potion and does not return the Starlight potion.

We do not rank specific ants for Starlight, because we do not yet have per-ant stats to rank them by.

FAQ

How much does the Starlight Mutation Potion cost?

$5.1Qi in the item list we track (All Things How, published September 30, 2026). Check the live shop before buying, because prices can change with game updates.

What does the Starlight Mutation Potion do?

It gives an ant the Starlight Mutation, listed at 5x EFF. That is the highest multiplier in the tracked potion list.

How much stronger is Starlight than Petal?

Petal is listed at 3x EFF and Starlight at 5x, so the same ant would have about 67% more EFF with Starlight than with Petal.

Can I remove a Starlight Mutation?

The Mutation Removal Potion ($100k) removes an ant's mutation. It is a reset, not a refund, so you do not get the Starlight potion back.

How long does Starlight take to pay for itself?

We cannot say yet. We have not measured base EFF values for individual ants or how EFF turns into Cash per minute, so any payback time would be a guess.
