Do not mutate disposable ants
Mutation Potions are expensive enough that they should go on ants you plan to keep. If an ant is likely to be replaced soon, save the potion and keep rolling or upgrading instead.
This matters most at the upper end of the ladder: a Starlight potion at 5x EFF is powerful, but applying it to a short-lived worker wastes a late-game item.

How to pick a mutation target
A good target has staying power: useful rarity, visible contribution, and a role in your colony that will remain relevant after the next upgrade.
- Choose ants that already perform well.
- Avoid spending potions just to fix a weak worker.
- Use removal only when correcting a meaningful mistake.
Connect mutations with item cost
The Items page lists potion prices and EFF multipliers. Use those costs as part of the ant decision: the better the ant, the easier it is to justify the potion.
